Jason Davis, best-known for his role as the voice of Mikey Blumberg from Disney’s animated series Recess, died in Los Angeles on Sunday, at the age of 35.

Davis’ manager Scotty Gelt told BuzzFeed News, “No one can prepare for such a sudden and tragic loss; it came like a swift wind. I will truly miss my friend Jason. My deepest condolences to the Davis family.”

Although a cause of death was not yet known, Davis struggled with drug addiction.

In January 2011, Davis was arrested in Newport Beach, California for possession of a controlled substance.

He appeared on “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” from 2010 to 2011, documenting his treatment for substance abuse. He spoke about his recovery and relapses in a reunion special. In 2018, his family established a charity called “Cure Addiction Now.”

Davis was known for playing the voice of the character Mikey on Disney’s Recess between 1997 and 2001. He also appeared on a few episodes of Roseanne and 7th Heaven. In addition, he appeared in movies Beverly Hills Ninja and Rush Hour.

Davis’ mother Nancy Davis told the Hollywood Reporter, “Jason had a true heart of gold with such a zest for life. He was such a caring soul to everybody who ever knew him. He loved his friends and his family above all else. We ask for privacy as we take time to grieve this most devastating loss.”

Fans paid tribute to Davis and thanked him for bringing the character to life. Gelt said Davis was working as an executive producer on two projects just before his death: Electric and The Blue Star of India.
