The longtime Jeopardy host Alex Trebek has completed his treatment of chemotherapy for stage 4 pancreatic cancer, as he announced on Thursday. He has completed the treatment in just 7 months after he first announced about his disease and he is “on the mend” now.

He further said, “I’ve gone through a lot of chemotherapy, and thankfully that is now over. I’m on the mend and that’s all I can hope for right now.” Alex is back at work for Jeopardy and doing better now. He expects to survive from his cancer.

“Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging,” he stated in March. “But I’m going to keep working, and with the love and support of my family and friends — and with the help of your prayers, also — I plan to beat the low-survival-rate statistics for this disease.”

The 79-year-old had exclusively told PEOPLE in May that his prognosis was improving, according to his doctors and he was in “near remission.”

He added, “It’s kind of mind-boggling. The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory … some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

Alex was very happy to say that he is back on the sets of Jeopardy for filming 36th season of the show. He also said, “It’s another day at the office for me, and an exciting day because so many great things have been happening. We had Jeopardy James last season and got tremendous publicity for himself and for the show. We have a new champion, in Jason, this year. Typical energizer bunny kind of type.” Trebek looks very confident and energized personality. He adds interesting comments for this TV show lovers, “We have some exciting things coming up and I can’t wait to share them with you. Let me tell you, it’s going to be a good year.”
