Former American Idol contestant Avalon Young is urging people to help with medical expenses after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

The 26-year-old singer and her family have set up a GoFundMe campaign to help with her medical expenses as is set to undergo yet another surgery as part of her brain cancer treatment.

In February, Young underwent a 16-hour surgery to remove a peach-sized tumor from her front left temporal bone, according to the fundraiser’s page.

However, her doctors have recently advised her to undergo another surgery, “followed by weeks of radiation and chemotherapy” to treat her brain cancer.

The fundraiser’s page read, “Avalon has minimal insurance, is an independent artist, and self-supporting singer/songwriter. We hope to help her with some of the financial burden as a result of these medical expenses. No amount is too little.”

Avalon is set to undergo a second surgery on May 27, according to an update shared last week. As of Monday, the campaign has raised over $44,900 toward its $100,000 goal.

Young was an American Idol contestant on season 15 in 2016. However, she was eliminated from the singing competition following Idol’s Grammy Hits week.

In February, she took to Instagram to reveal that she “began having simple partial seizures” in November.

Initially, her labs and electroencephalogram tests showed that “there was no sign of any problem with my brain,” but an MRI later revealed a “mass legion tumor on my left frontal lobe,” Young wrote.

Young revealed her brain cancer diagnosis earlier this month. On April 3, she wrote in an Instagram post, “Got some of the worst news ever after thinking I was fully recovering after this tumor surgery. I’ve got cancer in my brain and I gotta boss up and take care of it. a second surgery, and then chemotherapy and radiation.”

“Unreal to receive this news at the age of 26,” she added. “Everything is gonna be okay, the journey is gonna be wild, but I’m ready for it.” The article was published on PEOPLE.
