Model Delilah Hamlin has recently opened up about having severe, painful scoliosis.

The 22-year-old shared a photo of her unclothed back with the curve in her spine with uneven shoulder blades visible on her Instagram account.

She wrote alongside the photo, “So here’s a raw photo of my back showcasing my severe scoliosis. Having scoliosis is painful [every day], but after I get treatment I feel so much better.”

Hamlin, who is the daughter of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Rinna and actor Harry Hamlin, also mentioned her osteopath, Anisha Joshi, for treating her condition. She wrote, “I don’t know what [I’d] do without her!”

Scoliosis is a sideways curve in your backbone or spine, which often shows up when you are a child or teenager, according to WebMD. The angle of the curve may be small, large, or somewhere in between but anything that measures more than 10 degrees on an X-ray is considered scoliosis.

The condition affects an estimated 7 million Americans, according to the National Scoliosis Foundation.

The characteristic signs of scoliosis include a visible curve in your back, uneven shoulders, waist, or hips, one shoulder blade that looks bigger, and ribs that stick out farther on one side of your body than the other, per WebMD. Scoliosis symptoms include low back pain, back stiffness, pain and numbness in lower extremities, and fatigue due to muscle strain.

Hamlin’s sister, Amelia, has also made a nod to the condition. In 2018, she posted an image of herself sporting a bikini and with one hip visibly higher than the other, captioning, “I think I need a scoliosis doc.”

People with mild scoliosis may not need any specific treatment. Instead, doctors examine you and take X-rays to see whether the condition is getting worse. Scoliosis treatments include braces, spinal fusion surgery, or a spine/rib-based growing operation, according to WebMD.
