According to Italy’s National Institute of Health (NIH), some food supplements available on the Italian market have been found to be tainted with erectile dysfunction (ED) drugs. Health officials have warned people from using such products.

The health officials said that they found erectile dysfunction drugs, such as sildenafil, tadalafil, and vardenafil, along with some derivatives of sildenafil in the products that they have recalled.

One of them is a food supplement developed by Sichuan Wellong Pharmaceutical called “Passion & Pleasure.” The Italian health agency recommended consumers to avoid this product.

Manufacturers tainting food and diet supplements with erectile dysfunction drugs has been an ongoing issue in recent times.

Another food supplement called “BioAcVit” has also been found to contain ED drugs sildenafil and tadalafil, which is manufactured by a Spanish company Marco Cordone. The health officials said that these products, which are originating from China, have been mislabeled with plant-based ingredients and are easily available online.

The food supplements and products tainted with ED drugs include:

  • Bioacvit capsules
  • Bioacvit extra forte capsules
  • Torexan capsules
  • Devit Forte capsules
  • Devit only Piante capsules
  • Bull extreme capsules

The Spanish drug regulatory body said that these food supplements are presented as natural products, without mentioning the actual ingredients present in them, putting people’s lives at risk. Sildenafil, Tadalafil, and Vardenafil belong to a class of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors. These ED drugs are inimical to certain medications, such as nitrates and alpha-blockers. If taken along with nitrates or alpha-blockers, PDE5 inhibitors can decrease the blood pressure to a potentially dangerous level, needing immediate medical attention.
