English footballer and former Liverpool midfielder, Brian Jackson, died at the age of 86, according to Liverpool FC.

The club is deeply saddened by the death of Jackson, which was signed as an 18-year-old from Leyton Orient by Don Welsh in November 1951.

Jackson made 133 appearances for Liverpool FC over the next six-and-a-half years and scored 11 goals.

“The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with Brian’s family and friends at this sad time,” the club said in a statement on Tuesday.

Jackson’s first strike came on debut after showing few nerves in the big match by netting his team’s goal in a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers at Anfield.

The Surrey-born outside-right went on to net a further 10 goals for Liverpool FC during a period that saw them demoted to the Second Division and struggle to bounce back.

Jacksons made his final appearance in March 1958 in FA Cup after getting defeated at Blackburn Rovers. He then joined Port Vale the following summer. He also went onto play for Peterborough United, Lincoln City, Burton Albion, and Boston United before calling time on his career in the mid-60s.
