Actor and singer Joshua Bassett has recently revealed that he was hospitalized with septic shock and heart failure in January 2021.

In a recent interview with GQ, Bassett, who is best known for playing Ricky Bowen in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, said in early January, he “started getting very ill, and it kept getting worse.”

The 20-year-old initially thought it was food poisoning, but “it got worse, it got worse, it got worse, it got worse.” Then on January 14, he was taken to a hospital with “unimaginable pain.”

Eventually, he was diagnosed with septic shock and heart failure.

“The doctors] told me that I had a 30% chance of survival, “he said. “They told me that if I had not checked into the hospital within 12 hours, I would have been found [dead] in my apartment.”

Bassett went on to say that at the time, he “didn’t have any energy to be able to focus on anything but staying alive.”

Back then, when this all happened, he posted an Instagram video of himself in the hospital, captioning, “after an unknown, uncomfortable feeling turned into, times 10, the worst pain of my life, i figured i’d just try to sleep. after multiple, very very ugly days and nights, i had no choice today but be taken to the hospital.”

“According to the doc, I now have the medal for ‘the sickest patient in the hospital.’ how cool!!!” he added.

Bassett did not say what exactly caused septic shock and heart failure, but he is “sure stress had a part in it.”

A couple of days before he started feeling ill, Olivia Rodrigo released her song Driver’s License, which made a buzz around social media with rumors that the song was about Bassett.

And the day Bassett was hospitalized, he released his own song Lie Lie Lie. The story appeared on Health.
