Singer and songwriter LeAnn Rimes is no stranger to mental health struggles due to the constant hard work she put into her music career.

The 38-year-old performed 500 shows in the initial first three years in the music industry, which took a toll on her mental health.

Rimes told Health, “It was exhilarating and exciting and everything I had always dreamt of since I was a kid, but there was so much pressure to live up to this kind of ‘wholesome little girl with the big voice’ image that everybody placed upon me.”

The effort she used to put into her music career has been overwhelming when she signed her first record deal at a very young age, according to Health.

Rimes said, “I was constantly working, so I don’t think there was ever a moment to stop and feel. Years and years of work—and never really stopping and asking myself, ‘How am I? How do I feel? What do I need?’”

Working constantly at such a fast pace eventually took a toll on her mental health. However, luckily, she sought help when she started noticing problems.

She said, “The day after my 30th birthday, I checked myself into a treatment center for anxiety and depression. I started a lot of talk therapy, which was very helpful in understanding what was going on inside.”

Rimes still works hard in her career, but she makes sure to take care of her mental health.

She advises people to seek help if they notice any signs of anxiety or depression. She says prioritize your mental health.

“Know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” Rimes said. You can have a look at Rimes’ video on Deep Dives, a new Health video series where inspiring people talk about a health topic.
