American singer-songwriter and musician Justin Townes Earle has passed at the age of 38. The cause of his death is not clear yet.

Justin’s family shared the news on his death on social media that read, “It is with tremendous sadness that we inform you of the passing of our son, husband, father, and friend Justin. So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys. You will be missed dearly Justin.”

Born on January 4, 1982, in Nashville, Tennessee, Justin was the son of rock and country singer Steve Earle. He was named after his father’s friend and beloved songwriter Townes Van Zandt.

Justin won the Americana Music Honors & Awards new and emerging artist of the year in 2009.

Overall, he recorded eight full-length albums, including 2019’s The Saint Of Lost Causes, during a 13-year solo career.

In 2008, Justin revealed on Morning Edition that he had a history of drug addiction.

What a loss.” American country singer-songwriter and producer Margo Price tweeted, “Sending love and condolences to Steve Earle and the entire family of Justin Townes Earle… he was always kind to me and he’s gone too soon.”
