American competitive swimmer and 12-time Olympic medalist, Ryan Lochte, has successfully undergone appendicitis surgery, as his wife Kayla was by his side during the procedure, offering moral support.

The 36-year-old athlete posted a video clip showing Kayla and wrote, “Moral support my boo.”

Ryan and Kayla share two children – 14-month-old daughter Liv and 3-year-old son Caiden.

Later, Lochte posted a clip with breathing tubes inserted in his nose, and his eyes barely open, assuring the surgery went seamlessly.

He said, “Hey everyone, surgery went amazing. I’m all good — I feel great right now.”

He also shared a glimpse of his “post-surgery meal” of steak, French fries, and a Caesar salad.

Last year in August, Lochte revealed his decision to seek alcohol treatment in Florida in 2018 for about six weeks. At the time, the swimmer said at the U.S. National Championships that he has a new outlook on life.

Lochte recalled, “I think it was getting to a point in my life where I needed a change. Since Caiden and my new daughter Liv has been born I have a new perspective on life and I’m definitely not the same person that I was.”

“I went there because I needed help. I need to change some things in my life,” he added. “That’s what I went there for and I came out a better man.”

Lochte has currently been undergoing training to swim for next year’s Olympics, which have been delayed from this summer due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, he told PEOPLE that he is “trying to prove to everyone that I can do this — you could say this is my redemption.”
