European Union (EU) has approved a new rub-on gel for men with erectile dysfunction (ED), which works within 10 minutes and six times faster than the little blue pill Viagra.

The new rub-on gel, called MED3000, is seen as the biggest breakthrough in the treatment of ED, which affects at least one in five men across the globe.

Futura Medical, a UK-based pharmaceutical company, develops MED3000, a quick-fire lotion that will be available without a prescription.

The product is now on course for full certification by the end of May. The news of EU approval saw Futura’s shares rapidly rise by 130%.

The company has reported 12,000 successful uses of the gel in trials, with highly satisfactory results, according to The Sun.

In the trials, users reported an initial cool sensation after applying the gel locally. Things rapidly begin to warm up after.

Viagra, which is one of the blockbuster ED drugs, has become a huge money-spinner for Pfizer, making the company earn billions of dollars.

The little blue pill takes an hour or more to work, which is why men are advised to take the dose an hour before sexual activity. In some men, it may take longer to act. Plus, Viagra may cause a few side effects in some users.

Futura CEO James Barder said, “We look forward with excitement to bringing MED3000 to patients in Europe as the first, clinically proven treatment for erectile dysfunction that is highly differentiated with its rapid speed of onset.” “[The certification] will give us freedom to market the product across all European countries, including the UK,” he added.
