Generic Cialis, which is advised for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), hit offline and online pharmacies in the United States in October 2018.

In September 2018, Teva Pharmaceutical launched its generic version of Cialis in the United States.

Generic Cialis, aka generic tadalafil, is more than 50% cheaper than the brand Cialis, which is developed by Eli Lilly.

Teva’s move was a welcome update considering the higher doses of brand Cialis costing about $2000 for 30 pills. On the other hand, generic Cialis may cost you between $100 and $600 for 30 pills.

The availability of generic Cialis in the United States was a big blow to Eil Lily, as well as Pfizer, which develops Viagra (sildenafil), another blockbuster ED drug, which came into the market nearly five years before Cialis.

Is generic Cialis different from brand Cialis? No. Both generic Cialis and brand Cialis contain tadalafil as an active ingredient so they are used to treat ED and BPH. There is no difference between these two versions of the drug.

Some people are concerned about how well generic Cialis works but it is important to note that U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has an extremely rigorous process for the approval of generic drugs before making them available.

The FDA’s process ensures that generic Cialis contains tadalafil in the same potency as its brand-name counterpart. However, there could be a few differences between them, such as the pills size, shape, color, and certain inactive ingredients.

The FDA approved tadalafil in 2003 shortly after approving vardenafil (Levitra), another ED drug. Like sildenafil and vardenafil, tadalafil belongs to the class of drugs called PDE-5 (phosphodiesterase-5) inhibitors.

PDE5 inhibitors work by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme in the body, eventually helping the body to boost nitric oxide, a substance that improves overall blood circulation. Like brand Cialis, generic Cialis improves penile blood flow in men so they can experience a stronger erection during sexual activity. Unlike Viagra and Levitra, which last long for 4 to 6 hours, Cialis is known to persist in your system for 36 hours, giving you ample time to make love several times. This is the reason why Cialis is called the “weekend” drug.
