In the United States, more than 90% of the medications prescribed by doctors are generics, according to Pharma Manufacturing, a source of information for pharma and biopharma professionals in manufacturing and operations.

What’s more interesting is that more than 33& of these generic drugs are likely to be manufactured in India.

Pharma Manufacturing says, “India’s ability to produce affordable, generic drugs has led to its reputation of being the ‘pharmacy of the world.’” In fact, globally, India is currently the largest provider of generic medicines, supplying nearly 20% of global generic medications.

More often than not, US consumers questions the quality of generic medications produced in India, especially Generic Viagra, an erectile dysfunction medicine that is bought online by millions of people. Quality issues of generic medicines raise concerns among patients that taking drugs manufactured in India may result in unpredictable effects.

There have been concerns raised by the US drug regulatory bodies about the quality of generic drugs imported from India and even from other nations.

It is unclear whether Generic Viagra bought from India is safe.

The problem here is there is no way of identifying a poorly produced product from one produced with good intentions and good ingredients even if the medicine contains the active ingredient, according to MyOnlineDoctor, a private doctor service providing online consultations and healthcare operating in the UK.

Generic Viagra may contain the same active ingredient as the brand Viagra, but it may also contain other inactive ingredients that could be toxic and potentially dangerous to our health.

“Strangely enough the most common problem is not the active ingredient but more likely the bonding ingredients added to bond the active ingredient,” says MyOnlineDoctor. “This is because it is the most expensive single ingredient that goes into making a generic copy of Pfizer’s Viagra tablet.”

“For this reason, usually cheaper ingredients are added as bulking agents or to help bind the active ingredient and form it into a tablet,” it adds. “For this reason, it is quite easy to tell a fake or generic tablet from a genuine Pfizer tablet however it is almost impossible to tell the difference between a safe generic Viagra tablet from a dangerous one.”

Nowadays, it has become difficult to tell the difference between a genuine and generic Viagra drug.

Previous studies on different generic drugs manufactured in India have been found to contain toxic substances.

MyOnlineDoctor cautions people that most Indian drug companies produce effective generic treatments but there is a lack of regulation monitoring of those treatments. There are innumerable pharma companies in India that sell fake or degraded versions of Generic Viagra.

In 2014, an FDA representative said, “The problems FDA investigators encounter in India are similar to those seen around the world in manufacturing,” according to Consumer Reports.

Imports of Generic Viagra from India increased significantly in the last decade or so, The FDA has sanctioned many Indians factories in the last 10 years. The takeaway is we are unsure whether Generic Viagra pills coming from India are safe. However, it is recommended to seek an expert’s advice before buying Generic Viagra online. More importantly, you must check whether or not the source from where you buy the drug is regulated.
